Giving Thanks to Veterans

Posted by on May 25, 2012

As we take time out to remember those who gave their lives for our country this weekend, I remember this awesome Naval Officer on one of our flights. When Ella told her, “Thank you for keeping us safe”,  she immediately took her flag off her uniform and gave it to Ella. This Officer was returning home from Baghdad after being injured and hadn’t seen joyful children in over a year. She was so happy to hear Ella’s gratefulness and SHE is the one who requested this photo. I am honored beyond words. This photo and that flag we will treasure forever. Our freedom is not free and we are so grateful to those who choose to serve our country to protect us.

You can instill this good habit of thankfulness in your children too. Any time you see military in uniform, prompt them to say thank you. At age 4, Ella is just beginning to think of it herself without prompting. We can never thank our military (past and present) enough for the sacrifices they make for our freedom.
