Grand Old Flag (Photo Friday)

Posted by on May 24, 2013

Liberty Station

This is our favorite flag in one of our favorite cities to visit. It is in the old Naval Training Center in San Diego, which has now become a beautiful neighborhood with houses, townhomes, shops, hotels, parks, and recreation. We lived there for 8 years before moving to New York. I’ll write more soon about Liberty Station and all there is to do there. You could spend a weeks’ vacation there without even leaving the “base”!

Every time we passed by this flag we would sing “You’re a Grand Old Flag”. Ella always likes to finish it off with jumping up an octave on the final “fla-AG!” I’m thinking of this beautiful flag this Memorial Day weekend. Looking at it I’m always reminded of the men and women who gave their lives for our country so we could be safe and free. Be sure you instill a respect of the flag and our military in your child. Read my Memorial Day post from last year to see another way I teach my kids about honoring our military here.
