Okay, so it’s not about planes, but as a family who loves travel, we not only love airplanes but also trains. Today is National Train Day. Many cities have events celebrating the day. Somehow the last 2 years we were always flying and missing the celebrations. I was hoping that this year we would get to participate and was so disappointed to learn that New York City was not holding an event this time.
I actually forgot that today was National Train Day, but fittingly my husband decided to take Ella on one of their favorite short train trips to a bakery in a nearby town. It’s the perfect trip to take with young kids, just two stops, then get off and get a treat at the bakery and take a return train back home.
We have fun on all trains, but here are some shots of us on a beautiful old steam train on the Abilene & Smokey Valley Railroad in Abilene, Kansas…not too comfortable with wooden benches and no air conditioning, but it is such a beautiful train!
We have yet to take an overnight trip on a train. We’d really like to, though. Have any of you taken a train trip longer than a day trip? Where did you go?
